Data & methodology

Know what is behind the numbers.

The comparison is only useful when the model, variant and measurement conditions are clear. This is how to read our catalogue, its illustrations and the sources linked below.

Catalogue scope and provenance

Each entry identifies a brand, model or variant and a catalogue year. It represents a selected version rather than every configuration sold under that name. The year does not certify a launch date, current availability or that the record is the latest model on sale.

Manufacturer brochures and Malaysian distributor specification pages are the preferred references. The list below documents sources located for 25 of the 53 entries. It is not a claim that every field has been independently verified: some references publish dimensions without a boot figure, and current pages may include newer variants. Other catalogue records remain indicative while their source references are being documented.

Use the reference note to check the scope. An earlier body, a petrol-versus-hybrid difference or an antenna-height definition can matter more than a small numerical difference. Do not substitute an overseas variant's specification without checking the Malaysian configuration.

Dimensions and calculated differences

Length, width, height and wheelbase are shown in millimetres. Differences use Car B minus Car A. A positive value means B has the larger recorded measurement; a negative value means B has the smaller one. Swapping cars reverses that direction.

Width follows the published catalogue body figure and should not be assumed to include mirrors. Height may exclude an antenna or accessories. Wheelbase measures axle spacing and is not a measurement of legroom. The website does not calculate turning clearance, door sweep, ground clearance or passenger fit from those values.

How the side-profile illustration works

Vehicle images are prepared on a shared canvas so their length and height can be viewed at a common intended scale and baseline. The numerical guides are calculated from the recorded dimensions. Car A is in the foreground and Car B is translucent; Swap changes their order.

The image remains an illustration. Perspective, image preparation, tyre fitment and suspension can affect the outline, and small inconsistencies may remain. Body width cannot be judged from a side view. Use the numeric specification for a measurement comparison and the actual vehicle for a close-clearance decision.

Boot capacity, seats and missing values

Boot capacity is displayed in litres when recorded. Unless a note explains a specific setting, the measurement method is not guaranteed to match another manufacturer's figure. Do not combine the main boot with a front boot or underfloor storage unless a source explicitly defines that total.

Examples of relevant conditions include the Ativa's upper- versus lower-tier boot floor, the City petrol RS versus e:HEV RS, and a seven-seat MPV with its third row available versus folded. Seat count describes the selected configuration, not its comfort or luggage allowance. A dash means no value is recorded; missing data is never treated as zero.

Read the boot-space and seating guide for a load test you can repeat at a showroom.

Editorial interpretation and corrections

Notes on popular comparisons explain what the recorded differences could mean for a parking or loading question. They are not personal road-test reports, and do not rate safety, handling, reliability or running costs. Calculations and practical inferences should be distinguished from manufacturer specifications.

To report an error, send the entry or comparison URL, exact variant, disputed field and supporting source to jimmyhoe007@hotmail.com. Manufacturer pages can change over time; always verify the version in a quotation or used-car listing before relying on it.

Manufacturer & distributor references

These links support checking the selected models. Notes call out known scope differences; a reference link does not certify every capacity value or provide a licence for vehicle imagery.
